Senior Accounts Bookkeeper

CONTRACT:

Full-Time, Permanent

We are looking for an experienced and detail-driven Senior Accounts Bookkeeper to support our Finance Manager and play a key role in the smooth running of our finance function. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys ownership, accuracy, and variety, with responsibility across monthly management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, and day-to-day financial processing.

You will be working within an established business, collaborating closely with colleagues across the wider team and helping to ensure our financial records are robust, compliant, and well managed. If you are organised, proactive, and confident working across multiple finance processes in an SME or owner-managed environment, this role offers stability, responsibility, and the opportunity to further develop your skills within a supportive setting.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role plays a key part in supporting the Finance Manager and the wider business, helping to keep our financial reporting accurate, organised and running smoothly. You’ll be hands-on with month-end processes while also supporting day-to-day transactional activity, bringing structure, attention to detail and reliability to the finance function.

PERSON REQUIREMENTS

This role would suit someone who enjoys working in a structured, hands-on finance environment and takes real pride in accuracy and consistency. You’ll be organised and detail-focused, confident in managing core bookkeeping responsibilities, and proactive in your approach to day-to-day work. Reliability is key, as is the ability to work to deadlines and support the wider finance function as part of a close-knit team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare accurate monthly balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, and prepayments
  • Post month-end journals
  • Maintain fixed asset registers
  • Prepare VAT returns
  • Submit CIS returns
  • Complete intercompany reconciliations
  • Support the purchase and sales ledger
  • Assist with day-to-day processing and transactional activities

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • AAT Level 4 or equivalent experience
  • Experience working with SMEs and owner-managed businesses

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and general IT systems
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics NAV desirable

  • Payroll experience desirable

  • CIS / DRC knowledge desirable

  • Construction industry experience preferred
