Colemans, the UK’s award-winning specialist in engineered deconstruction and remediation, welcomed Mayor of Croydon, Jason Perry, to the Regina Road site on Tuesday 12 August 2025, where the team is undertaking the specialist deconstruction of the first large-panel system (LPS) tower block in the estate’s regeneration programme
Situated in South Norwood, the Regina Road estate comprises three 11-storey LPS towers and low-rise blocks, built in the 1960s using construction methods common at the time. In 2023, residents voted overwhelmingly in favour of full-scale regeneration, supporting plans to replace the existing buildings with new, modern homes and community spaces.
Leadership Support and Local Skills in Action
Mayor Perry’s visit provided an opportunity to see first-hand how the project is progressing and to meet members of the Colemans team delivering this complex work. His presence underlines the Council’s commitment to working closely with the community to deliver new homes residents can be proud of, shaped by direct engagement with local people.
As part of the works, Colemans is creating local employment opportunities, apprenticeships, and training to ensure the benefits of regeneration last well beyond the demolition itself. One example is Lewis, a local resident who lives in Regina Road and who also joined us on site during the visit. Lewis has recently completed more than 20 e-learning courses provided by Colemans and is now being considered for a role on site with the rest of the team; a clear demonstration of how the project is creating skills and opportunities for the local community.
Precision, Safety, and a New Future for Regina Road
Colemans mobilised to site in January 2025, with deconstruction of Tower 1 (1–87 Regina Road) commencing in August 2025. Works are being delivered with respect, precision, and a community-first ethic. Building wraps and hoardings are in place to control noise, dust, and vibration, helping to minimise disruption for neighbours while maintaining public safety. This first block is expected to be fully removed by autumn 2025.
Working with Croydon residents like Lewis is a big part of how we deliver social value. The Regina Road regeneration is an important project for this community and giving local people the chance to work on it helps build skills and creates opportunities that last beyond the demolition.
