Consultants from the Coleman’s team provided specialist services to support the closure of a waste site in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, as part of the regeneration of Jeddah into a dynamic and world-class city.
Working closely with the client, Jeddah Development and Urban Regeneration Company, our consultants completed a multi-stage contract to help remediate and reprocess the site near the city, which has been accepting solid waste for 30 years. The works helped to remove potential risks to nearby residents, eradicate ecological dangers and control fugitive gas emissions to help bring Jeddah’s carbon footprint in line with other leading cities around the world.
Our team provided engineering consultancy on all stages of the project, including drawing up a tender and advising on contractor selection for the closure of the Jeddah Old Landfill (JOLF), design of a new landfill site to European waste management standards and supervising the construction of the new site. We also advised on management of the gas, following on from the capping construction.
Key to the success of this project included close communication with the client. We employed a local engineering consultancy to assist in overcoming obstacles that come with working in different cultures, whilst working to provide specialist advice to local partners who lack the experience and knowledge of working on landfill sites. This collaborative approach helped to ensure innovative and cost-effective solutions, working to the highest European standards.
