What makes Colemans different?
What makes Colemans different?
OUR APPROACH
Forget the structures for a minute.
Forget the structures for a minute. Forget the services, the capabilities, the tenders. Our difference is the way our People approach and execute each project to ensure a quality, sustainable, safety first culture is our primary focus.
Drawing on our experience at the forefront of the demolition industry for more than 60 years, Colemans have developed a unique approach that lets us focus on what matters most. We’re driving progress to help de-risk projects, whether human, operational or environmental risk.
We consider all carbon emissions from our companies activities, identifying areas where we can reduce our foot print but also our clients by introducing market leading circular economy innovation.
Putting people first
We recognise the importance of people in exceeding expectations for clients and we’ve worked hard to develop a culture where employees feel safe, empowered and engaged to do the best possible job – putting the physical and mental wellbeing of our people at the heart of our business.
Colemans remain a family business, run by the third generation of the Coleman family. And this ethos extends across the entire organisation. We recognise the importance of people in exceeding expectations for
clients and we’ve worked hard to develop a culture where employees feel safe, empowered and engaged to do the best possible job – putting the physical and mental wellbeing of our people at the heart of our business.
A sustainable approach
We have also built a strategy to reduce the environmental impact of our activities, incorporating a sustainable strategy that ensures that our collective carbon footprint is reduced each time we consider everything we do. This includes the increased use of environmentally friendly solutions where we focus on the energy source, the minimisation of waste to include the re-purposing and reuse of materials to ensure our circular economy is front and centre of everything we do. This includes initiatives such as using electric-powered plant, new methodologies that reduce water usage, increased use of digital resources to minimise travel and a continued commitment to sustainability across all sites and offices and offices. This approach forms part of our ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) activity.

Access to the latest technology
Moving away from the traditional model of owning heavy plant, we have built strong relationships with suppliers over more than 60 years in business. We outsource our heavy plant and equipment, working only with market leaders in their respective fields.
This strategy means we can source the most up-to-date, environmentally friendly and technically advanced equipment for all projects to suit each and every intricate detail that our work demands. Our own fleet of equipment is 100% electric-powered and we ensure our carbon footprint is reduced year on year.
This strategy unlocks benefits that enable us to deliver a better service for clients:
- Access to a more extensive range of plant and equipment than any individual contractor could purchase, so we can use the most appropriate plant and equipment to suit the constantly changing project needs across the scope of our services and site locations.
- Use of the latest innovative technologies to improve safety and environmental performance, including robotic equipment, electric powered plant and investment in hydrogen technology, supporting our own ESG goals and benefitting our like-minded clients with whom we have aligned ourselves.
- Reduced transportation of plant and equipment, undertaking service and maintenance of equipment in the locality of where it is working.
- A more agile fleet, able to source equipment for any project, at any time, with reduced downtime, providing greater efficiencies across all areas of delivery throughout our projects.
- Our people are now able to focus on planning and delivery, allowing more time and resources to dedicate to safety, service, innovation and quality.
- Increased utilisation rates because for every unique requirement we can specify exactly what we want, rather than have to use what we have – our utilisation rate has increased dramatically from 75% to 98%*
We’re also embracing digital technologies to drive continuous improvements in sustainability, efficiency and quality. We use the latest interactive technology in a common data environment to design detailed methodologies, reduce the risk of design errors and enhance project communication.

environmental social governance (ESG)
We don’t just tick boxes.
We believe environmental, social and governance standards are more than a box ticking exercise. They provide a framework for improvement, supporting our clients to achieve their own goals in a rapidly changing world.
As a responsible contractor, Colemans’ focus is on using innovative technologies and developing new ways of working that can reduce the environmental and social impact of our projects.
We are committed to progress and transparency, working safely and in collaboration with clients to help them on their net zero journey as we pursue our own.
Colemans is a proud member of the SME Climate Hub, a global initiative that empowers small to medium sized companies to take climate action and build more resilient businesses. We have committed to halve our own emissions by 2030 and achieve net zero by 2050 as part of the United Nations Race to Zero campaign. Our actions will be audited every year under the SME Climate Hub initiative.
We have invested heavily in market leading initiatives and are working with specialist Carbon Reduction Accountants to support our ambitious focus. As a result, we will be accredited by the ISO for PAS 2060 and certified with carbon neutrality complete by the end of 2023. From this point we will be road-mapping our journey to net zero.
We recognise the need to educate our people and build strategies to deliver our ambitions, which must be well thought through, clear and enabled by effective communication along with external auditing.
